Key Largo Permit and Jack Crevalle Fishing Charters

Permit and jack fishing with Reel Chaos Charters!

Permit and Jack Crevalle are great sportfish. They are hard hitting and hard fighting, even the little guys will fool you. Pound for pound they are some of the hardest fighting fish in the flats. They often get mistaken for tarpon when they first hit the line. They run far and fast, which is why Reel Chaos tends to keep the reels well loaded. The best way to describe these guys is dynamite with fins. Once they know they are hooked you better have had a hearty breakfast, because you will need it.

Jack Crevalle

  • They average about 2 1/2 feet long and have a maximum weight of about 70 pounds.
  • The crevalle jack is capable of producing croaking sounds by grinding its teeth together while releasing gas from its air bladder.
  • The Florida fishing record for the crevalle jack is 51 pounds
  • Schools of crevalle jacks have been observed to corner and/or corral smaller baitfish. Once contained, the jacks will feed on the baitfish with great voraciousness. Their surface feeding commotion may be seen from a great distance - often appearing as boiling or churning surface waters.
